Finding The Balance

Hey guys, it's the monthly update post for July! Thank you to the various new Patrons we've had this month alongside those who've continued their support. It all helps me with bills and living and I greatly appreciate you all going the extra mile to support me!

I took a break from GTA towards the end of last month. It was really refreshing and gave me some insights into what I've been doing lately that has caused me to not enjoy myself as much. I'm always trying to balance YouTube and Twitch, and sometimes that balance can shift too much one way or another. Well lately it has been shifting too much towards YouTube. I got into a routine of consistent uploads of the same series every week/two weeks and while it was nice for a time, if you don't keep your mind on top of it you can easily find yourself feeling like you have to keep it up.

And that's where I got to. I started treating streams as glorified recording sessions for YouTube. Trying to plan everything out in advance and making sure I hit the same things each stream because I knew they'd turn into videos. While there are certain things (like random races or Gfred) that I know already will become a video, forcing other content actively took away from the enjoyment of the streams. Especially if I did for example a cannonball race on PH and did absolutely terribly, but still felt like I had to upload it as a video. And trying to plan things in advance to the level I was just isn't sustainable when it comes to live streaming. It has to be at least somewhat organic.

None of this was done consciously of course. It's the sort of thing that just creeps up on you and becomes your mindset. And it required this little break from GTA after getting burnt out by doing this to make me realise what I was doing. So moving forward I'm going to be less regimented with videos and more organic with streams. It's always a tricky balance when doing both Twitch and YouTube. It'd be much easier if I just did one or another. But I enjoy both equally and I think the strength of my content comes from blending the two. It's just important to keep on top of it and keep the balance between them. I'm looking forward to getting back into the swing of things this weekend in a more relaxed way.
