Too Much Admin
I don't make videos that much any more. That may seem weird to read from a YouTuber and it's certainly weird to say, but it's a revelation I've come to very recently (although I realise it's been in the back of my mind for some time).
If you take away videos that are created from stream footage, such as random races and Gfreds, then you're not left with much in the way of content. There have always been ebbs and flows to this sort of thing over the years, but lately I feel there's been a significant period with not much extra stuff outside of stream races.
Some of this no doubt comes from the age of the game. Gone are the days when I could make multiple videos on car mechanics, chatting about updates, test something random then make a video with the surprising findings, etc. We're in the late stages of the game and we basically know everything we need to know at this point, and I don't want to just rehash old stuff that I've already covered. I also don't have to make anywhere near as many testing videos for new cars any more and I think I've reached my limit for "spin-offs".
In addition to all that though, is that I just have so many other things to do. Answering emails or Discord messages, planning streams and future content, managing and updating websites, sending store orders, recording income for taxes, keeping public spreadsheets and schedules current... over time my overhead has just grown and grown as I take on more things. All to the point where outside of streams I definitely do more of that than actually making videos.
And ultimately I miss it. I got into all this stuff back in 2012 (and earlier) because I enjoy the process of crafting a video. The last in-depth video I'd say I properly made from start to finish was my updated channel trailer at the start of the year, and I loved it (both how it turned out and the whole creation process). Before that it would've been the GTA 5 actors video last August which again I really enjoyed putting together and is probably one of the best videos on my channel. While there have been other discussion-y videos alongside those which I also enjoy making, it's the pride of spending time on a cool edit and seeing the result in the final video that I really love. And I do it less and less these days.
I think the thing I'm most looking forward to when it comes to GTA 6 is the excitement of discovering new things and making videos about them. I do have a special video in the works that will be coming out hopefully early next month too, on the same level as the GTA 5 actors video, which I'm going to savour the experience of crafting over the next month. But I'm also realising that I need to try and simplify my work life a bit, especially when it comes to the amount of admin type stuff I have to do, in order to make space for what I feel like I do best, what I enjoy the most, and what got me into this whole thing in the first place: making videos.
