After growing increasingly annoyed at YouTube videos back in 2013 suggesting things like the Carbonizzare being the quickest car in GTA Online because it had the highest in-game stat total, I took it upon myself to use my racing game experience to find out properly.

Current Testing

For 2024 I took all my learnings from 10 years of making GTA 5 testing videos to create a new series from scratch that would serve as a benchmark for any future testing series.

Previous Testing

In 2014 I started testing cars fully upgraded for lap time, adding top speed to the mix in 2015. With over 500 videos and 750 vehicles tested, they were the longest running series I did.

Original Testing

This is what started it all off as nobody else was doing this at the time, with lap time testing for stock vehicles in 2013 around the Rockstar created Cutting Coroners track.

Fact-Finding

While not lap time or top speed testing, the Fact-Finding series also aims to improve knowledge on other aspects of cars in GTA Online via proper testing and reliable information.

Car Testing By Year

I started car testing pretty early on in the life of GTA Online and it evolved significantly over the years.If you want a chronological exploration of new car releases and car testing videos, starting from old gen stock testing to now, the playlists below contain everything.

Note: these playlists are somewhat editorialised and don’t stick strictly to when the videos were published. For example, the last few testing videos of the 2020 DLC will be in the 2020 playlist despite the car and video actually being released at the start of 2021.

Track Links

Rockstar’s Cutting Coroners was the initial track for my testing, but the longer GP version has been used for all upgraded cars. It’s a relatively balanced track which I made myself, alongside air and sea versions. Links for all can be found by clicking the button below.

Testing Methodologies

I’ve always tried to be as transparent and scientific as possible with my testing, explaining exactly how it’s carried out as well as any limitations. I’ve chosen to focus on the two aspects I think are most important, and the full methodologies for both lap time and top speed are linked below.

Car Upgrades & Setups

I’ve done a lot of testing over the years to bust a number of myths, as well as prove a number of things, about vehicle upgrades that Rockstar doesn’t tell you. I’ve written these articles to cover all you need to know to make sure your cars are going as fast as possible, though not everything is applicable to all.

Spin-Off Videos

During my testing I’ve attempted to categorise my results in new ways, including sorting by car manufacturers or explain “Advanced Handling Flags” as we discovered what they did. Unlisted playlists of these things can be found with the buttons below, though as time moves on the manufacturers series will get more outdated.

Spreadsheets

I originally created a video showing the most expensive vehicles in GTA Online, but I curious about the cost to fill every garage with one of every vehicle. The spreadsheet with those values, alongside a comprehensive spreadsheet of lap times and more, is linked below and is updated after each new DLC.
