It's All In The Execution

So in last month's update post I talked about how I was planning to test cars in GTA 4, and we had a GTA 5 DLC to get through as well in what turned out to be a pretty busy July. Well that's all done and dusted and I'm well on my way with the GTA 4 cars. More than half way there I'd say. That means things are looking pretty good to get final full class specific testing videos for both games done before GTA 6.

There's a lot of moving parts to make it work though. Not only do I need to have the testing done for all cars in both games, with associated footage, I need intro shots for every car, thumbnails and intro clips for every class, edits done for the videos with correct data, and audio voiceovers as well. With 13 classes for GTA 4 and 17 for GTA 5, plus a couple extras along the way, it will end up being over 30 videos in total to finish off pre-GTA 6 car testing. I'm trying to front-load it as much as I can, like getting all the thumbnails in advance and editing the largest class first that I can then use as a template for future classes, but there's still going to be a lot of work needing to be done over the next few months.

A lot of that is also self-imposed. I want these testing videos to go up every Monday and Tuesday and in sync with each other. So for example the GTA 4 Muscle class video on Monday and the GTA 5 Muscle class video on Tuesday. While that certainly creates extra scheduling complications because I can't just create and upload as soon as things are ready, I've always preferred to do things this way. It's not just the finished product that matters, it's the way it's presented too. Releasing these classes in an order that makes sense for example, on a regular schedule that people can look forward to and with both games in tandem. In the grand scheme of things it's not really necessary, but neither is testing all cars in two games now!

I still gain a lot of my enjoyment from YouTube in planning a coherent video strategy and executing on it. It might take a little longer to make it happen that way, and I might get a little more stressed making it all work, but for my own personal feeling of achievement it's worth it.

By the time I write next month's update post you'll have already had some testing videos and we'll know more about GTA 6 too, as we look to the stream week in September, MCEC in October, and finally a new GTA game in November. It's about to get busy, so forgive me if this month’s off-season is a little more relaxed than usual!
